Abbott
Point of Care
Abbott Point of Care is the leader in critical patient blood testing
at the bedside.
The Point of Care test cartridge (microchip technology) is used
along with the handheld portable i-STAT® 1 analyzer. The advanced
technology combined with the whole-blood application at the bedside
eliminates the time associated with transport and processing of
chest pain patient's blood samples.
Emergency Department (ED) and Chest Pain Center nurses take the
single-use cartridge and analyzer to the patient bedside and add
1 drop of the patient's whole blood, receiving a lab-quality result
in just minutes. Providing the fastest cardiac marker results available
on the market today.
Faster test results provide earlier diagnosis and treatment, saving
more heart muscle. Rapid identification of those patients not having
heart attacks (the majority of chest pain patients presenting to
the ED) helps clear over crowed EDs. Additionally, the speed of
resulting helps hospitals meet the 2002' American Heart Association
/ College of Cardiology NSTEMI guidelines recommending "preferably
30- minute" turn-a-round time (TAT) for cardiac marker results.
The expanded critical care menu of Cardiac markers (TnI, CK-MB,
BNP*), Lactate (sepsis & trauma), CHEM8+, Blood gases, Electrolytes
and Glucose provides the critical care solution to clinicians so
they can make quick, accurate and informed decisions at the patient's
bedside. i-STAT® is utilized in over 1800 hospitals in America.
We improve the quality and cost of healthcare by driving real-time,
patient-side testing.
*BNP is pending FDA clearance.
