What is the American Heart Association’s Mission:Lifeline^® Initiative?

Every year, almost 250,000 people experience ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) - the deadliest type of heart attack. Unfortunately, a significant number don't receive prompt reperfusion therapy, which is critical in restoring blood flow. Worse yet, 30 percent of STEMI victims don't receive reperfusion treatment at all.

The American Heart Association's Mission:Lifeline^® seeks to save lives by closing the gaps that separate STEMI patients from timely access to appropriate treatments.

How can SCPC's Chest Pain Center Accreditation Help Your Facility Meet the Goals of AHA's Mission:Lifeline^®?

The Society of Chest Pain Centers has been the leader in establishing criteria that helps hospitals develop superior processes that embrace the full spectrum of cardiac care.  When the American Heart Association announced their commitment to improving reperfusion times for the STEMI patient, the relationship seemed a natural fit.
The American Heart Association recognized that in order to make their goal successful, it was important to affiliate with the leader in this field - and so the collaboration began.

Becoming an accredited chest pain center will ensure that facilities continue to improve many of the clinical processes identified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) under their Value-based Purchasing program. 

Combining the American Heart Association's Mission:Lifeline® Accreditation with SCPC's Chest Pain Center Accreditation, further assists in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction by providing a comprehensive approach to treating all patients with acute coronary syndromes including those at risk for its development. 

The Society of Chest Pain Centers and the American Heart Association mutually agree that providing cardiac accreditation programs is in the best interest of patients, meets the needs of the healthcare community, and will help to significantly reduce cardiac deaths.
